Software versions
Every project runs on specific versions of its software. The selected versions apply to all environments of the project. Currently, you can choose the versions of the following software:
- PHP
- Node.js
Changing the versions
- Open your project and navigate to the Settings tab.
- In the Software section, select the versions you want to use.
- Click the "Update software" button to apply the changes.
Every team member can change the software versions of a project. Hubble Studio updates the infrastructure of all environments in the background. A new deployment may be required for the change to take full effect, for example to rebuild your application with the new versions.
WARNING
Make sure your application is compatible with the new versions before switching, ideally by testing the change in a preview environment first. Switching to an older version is possible, but not recommended.
Version lifecycle
Software versions are only maintained for a limited time. Each version goes through the following states:
| State | Description |
|---|---|
| Active support | The version receives active support, including bug and security fixes. |
| Security fixes only | The version only receives fixes for security issues. |
| End of life | The version no longer receives any fixes and should be upgraded. |
The version selection in the project settings shows until when each version is supported, and whether it only receives security fixes, e.g. "8.3 — Supported until Dec 31, 2027 (security fixes only)". The dates follow the official release schedule of each software, e.g. for PHP and Node.js.
End of life warnings
Hubble Studio warns you when your project uses a version that is about to reach or has reached its end of life:
- 90 days before the end of life, your project shows a warning.
- Once the end of life is reached, the warning turns into an alert, since the version no longer receives security fixes.
Versions that have reached their end of life can still be selected, so existing projects keep working. We strongly recommend upgrading to a supported version as soon as possible, though.
